The Cabildo is an elegant Spanish colonial building that was the seat of Spanish colonial city hall of New Orleans, and is now the Louisiana State Museum Cabildo. It’s located along Jackson Square, adjacent to St. Louis Cathedral. The building was built between 1976 to 1799 under Spanish rule. The Cabildo was the site of the Louisiana Purchase transfer in 1803, which finalized the US’s acquisition of the Louisiana Territory and doubled the size of the fledgling nation. The Cabildo was severely damaged in an inferno in 1988, and was authentically resorted with 600-year old French timber framing techniques within five years.
